Gilbert grew up in Lavaca County near Hallettsville and is a Navy veteran. Gilbert is a graduate of the SW Graduate School of Banking at SMU. Gilbert began his banking career with Victoria Bank & Trust in 1964 and retired from banking in 2006 in Jackson County. While in Jackson County, community involvement was always a high priority with Gilbert. Gilbert served as President of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce for 2 years, served on the board of the Jackson County Hospital District, and is a life long member of the Lions Club. Gilbert has also been a member of the Knights of Columbus for 46 years, of which he served as the Grand-Knight of the Edna Council for 4 terms. His hobbies include golfing, fishing, and hunting, and esp. any event that involves his grandchildren. He always looks forward to his annual hunting trip to Colorado with family members. Gilbert is a member of the Victoria Board of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, and the Texas Association of Realtors.
